There is Time For That: Finding Time to Slow Down
There is time for that. If we make it, that is.
Finding Time to Slow Down
How often do you find yourself rushing through a morning or evening routine? Asking, then pleading, then begging, and maybe even yelling, “put on your shoes!” (for us, it’s always the shoes!). Rushing to get out the door, to get to school, to get to the park or the party. To go, go, go.
Just to get out the door and have your little one stop to look and delight at a bug, his “friend.” “Mama! Remember this one? This friend? He came back!”
And, in a moment of trying to get out the door, you hurry him along, thinking, “we don’t have time to look at bugs.”
What if there was time for that? If we made time for it?
What would that feel like for you? Your kids?
If we took just a few minutes extra each day to make time for the wonder of our children.
If we let them get ready at their own pace, to focus on their distractions along the way.
What if there is time for that?
There is.
If we make it.
Obviously, I know that there are obligations. We need to go to the pediatricians, and if we don’t get on the road soon, we will be stuck in Saturday afternoon beach traffic and it will take us twice as long. We need to get to school on time, and our coffee date is always early.
Of course. On those days, we might need to guide our little ones to move in the direction of the door at a bit of a faster pace.
But, what if we built in time to let them get themselves dressed at their own pace. To pick out the outfit and linger barefoot? If we gave them the time they needed to wonder at the world as they walked out of the car?
What might that mean for them? For us?
